This is the factory prepared Aston Martin DB MkIII which was specially modified in early 1957 to race in the production GT category in the United States.
17th DB MkIII produced and earmarked for ‘promoting Aston Martin in the US’ in the production GT category Class C of the SCCA. Standard DBA 2922cc engine (steel block, head, standard crank) but fitted with DB3S cams, larger valves and 40mm Webers x 3. DB3S configuration for water and oil cooling rads. Close ratio needle roller gear box. Only car with this spec and bonnet scoop although the AMOC register mentions another MkIII that was prepared for racing in US… not heard of for many years.
Engine spec is the same today. Only changes to the car over the years – diff ratio change and added LSD, new pistons, connecting rods, modern oil cooler. Weighed by the Club at 1294 kilos. Racing seat for driver
The car has seen many successes in the USA and throughout Europe and especially in the UK where it has been continually raced by the current owner for the last 30 years. The car is in original condition as entered by the Aston Martin factory at Sebring in the 12 hour races (1958 & 1959) and holds current FIA HTP papers.
